The Akron BioMedical Corridor is surrounded by recognized colleges and universities that offer a variety of biomedical-related coursework and programs for undergraduate and graduate programs. For example:
Biomedical engineers conduct research and study the engineering aspects of biological systems to create new devices and procedures to improve health and quality of life. Core curriculum provides solid background in engineering principles. Biomechanics Track focuses on mechanical engineering fundamentals, with specialization in:
The Department of Biomedical Engineering at The University of Akron offers programs leading to Master's and Doctoral degrees in Engineering. The Graduate Program offers two separate specialization tracks: 1) Biomechanics and 2) Instrumentation, Signals and Imaging. This track format allows students to concentrate their studies and research in a particular area of interest. Over 30 graduate level courses have been developed in these two areas of specialization.
The KSU School of Biomedical Sciences was founded in 1987 to provide graduate training in five biomedical science disciplines:
Kent State University and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation maintain a cooperative graduate training program leading to the doctoral degree in biomedical sciences. Together, both institutions offer world-class facilities to support the most modern training opportunity for students interested in research careers in the biomedical disciplines. Graduate students can benefit from the expertise, experience and facilities of an outstanding faculty and staff that are nationally and internationally known for their research and teaching capabilities.
NEOMED has collaborative arrangements with KSU and UA to offer graduate-level coursework and research opportunities in biomedical sciences and biomedical engineering leading to master's and doctoral degrees.
