FMI Technologies, originally from Solon, Ohio, developed an imaging platform superior to MRI. As it started its search for funding, the Accelerator invested 18 months of no-cost assistance in the company. In turn, the company was successful in attracting $18 million in direct foreign investment from two investors in China. Today, the company is building production facilities in both Akron and China.
Founded by three former Cisco Systems executives, Summit Data Communications develops radio modules that enable wireless medical equipment to communicate with computers in hospitals. Recognized by Inc. Magazine as the fastest-growing hardware company in the Midwest, Summit has seen a growth rate of 516 percent over the last three years. In 2011, it received the Technology Company of the Year Award from the National Business Incubation Association.
