5iTech LLC received a Phase I SBIR grant by one of its portfolio companies, Sterionics, Inc. Sterionics is commercializing a novel cold plasma device that has been demonstrated to have strong antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties delivering rapid wound or tissue disinfection without damage to healthy living tissue, and to encourage more rapid growth of healthy tissue, accelerating the healing process.

Sterionics' proprietary method and device were developed at the Laboratory of Microplasma Techniques of the Petrozavodsk State University, Petrozavodsk, Russia and were brought to the US by 5iTech, LLC. Sterionics is advancing the Gostev Plasma Pulse (GPP) technology, invented by Professor Valery A. Gostev of Petrozavodsk.

The Sterionics device will target chronic wounds, such as pressure ulcers (bed sores), venous ulcers, and diabetes ulcers, a $20 Billion market in the US, as well as traumatic wounds, such as occur in accidents, burns, and on the battlefield.
